After many years teaching and coaching, The Pirate Over 50 (AKA Al Ronek) reunited with his first love... Music.  You could say that he took a long break in between and got a “real” job!!  After reading Jimmy Buffett’s book “A Pirate Looks At 50”, he realized it’s never too late to do what you love.  So with the help and support of long time friend and musician Dave Hummel and his wife (and Roadie) Nancy, you now have A Pirate Over 50.

Al began his life in music in Dubuque, Iowa  in 1967, as a member of a band called “The 5th Column”,  covering the Rock Classics of the time until 1968 when Uncle Sam asked him to spend some time in the Army. And the music career went on hold until 2005 when A Pirate Over 50 began to appear around Dubuque.

A Pirate Over 50 has performed as a solo Jimmy Buffett/Classic Rock Cover Acoustic Act in many venues in the Dubuque area.  He has also teamed up with many other local musicians for 2, 3, 4, 5, & even 6 piece shows.  This past winter he had the opportunity to play with several musicians and singers from Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band at The Havana Daydreamin’ Event in The Quad Cities. He has also done some shows with “The Mississippi Band” and John Moran in the past, which have been very successful.

So if you like Jimmy Buffett Music, Classic Rock Music, or just enjoy the fun of live music, stop and see A Pirate Over 50 when he is in your area.
